Breast Augmentation If you would like to enhance your bust line with breast augmentation, Dr. Wagstrom can provide the enhancement you desire. Breast augmentation is a very common plastic surgical procedure that is designed to enlarge (and if necessary, lift) the breasts. Breast augmentation is most commonly performed on women who are unhappy with their breast size, symmetry, or the "droop" of their breasts.
We offer a wide variety of breast implants to meet the individual goals of all our patients. Implants vary in shape, material, size, and texture. Dr. Wagstrom will take careful note of the bust line and shape you want to achieve, and will recommend the implant accordingly. The age range of women seeking breast augmentation has a wide range from 18 to 70 years old! If you desire larger, shapelier, or more symmetrical breasts, you are likely a breast augmentation candidate.
Breast Reduction A procedure that removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts.
Breast reduction is usually performed through incisions on your breasts with surgical removal of the excess fat, glandular tissue and skin. After the incision is made, the nipple--which remains tethered to its original blood and nerve supply—is then repositioned. The areola is reduced by excising skin at the perimeter, if necessary. Underlying breast tissue is reduced, lifted and shaped.
The incisions are brought together to reshape the now smaller breast. Sutures are layered deep within the breast tissue to create and support the newly shaped breasts. The results of your breast reduction are immediately visible. Over time, post-surgical swelling will resolve and incision lines will fade. Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover.
Breast Lift Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. Sometimes the areola becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift will reduce this as well. A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is more youthful and uplifted.
During surgery, Dr. Wagstrom makes the incisions:
The underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness.
The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful height.
If necessary, enlarged areolas are reduced by excising skin at the perimeter.
Excess breast skin is removed to compensate for loss of elasticity..
Breast Reconstruction Breast reconstruction is a type of surgery for women who have had all or part of a breast removed. The surgery rebuilds the breast mound to match the size and shape of the other breast. The nipple and the darker area around the nipple (areola) can also be added. Most women who have had a breast removed (mastectomy) are able to have breast reconstruction. Women who have had only the part of the breast around the cancer removed (lumpectomy or breast-conserving surgery) might not need reconstruction, but sometimes they do. Contact Dr. Wagstrom to go over your best option for reconstructive surgery.
Gender Reassignment for the Breast Females who identify as male undergo mastectomies to closely approximate the male chest. Males who identify as female have breast implants placed to feminize the torso.
